Wedding Photography Tips and Advice

venue walk through – A venue walk through will help you and your photographer plan ahead for photo spots. If it’s a large venue with multiple portrait locations, it’s best to check how much time is needed to travel in between.

time budgeting – To avoid running behind wedding day schedule, budget enough time in between each event of your big day. This includes time to walk/travel b/w locations, waiting for bridal party/family members to be ready (eg: for pictures during the portraits), makeup/hair touch-ups, and other miscellaneous happenings during the wedding.

communication – Most likely the meeting and engagement session are months ago, it’s a good idea to recap your preference and specific details to your photographer before the big day (one to two weeks ahead).

family photo list – Most of your day the wedding photographer will focus on candid or photojournalistic style. For the family photos, prepare a list of the family members you would like photos with and in what combination. The list will help ease up the time in getting/finding the members for photos. Give the list to your Maid of Honor or a dedicated individual.

wedding photography tips

Booking is just like our weddings – just a phone call or an email. We begin with sharing the ideas and photo spots. Style includes urban, industrial, modern vintage, casual, romantic,  nature, and even mix & match.  Other engagement photo ideas include a themed shoot, a story shoot, a styled shoot, couture shoot, and couple boudoir session.

Engagement Photo Ideas and Tips

clothing choice – We recommend 2 outfit changes for the 3 hour standard session. It’s also a good idea to choose lighter colors and simple patterns during the day. Darker colors and fancier choice for the night time engagement pictures. Many times your engagement photographer will ask you to sit on the grass / bench / floor and lean on walls, so dress comfortably for those situations.

engagement props – We encourage all types of props for the engagement session. It can be something sentimental ( favorite soda, coffee mug, books, movie ), handmade ( banner, save the date sign, old photos board ), and even something big ( car, vintage trailer, styled shoot props ). Dogs and cats are also welcome for your session! Many websites also sell engagement photo props such as

locations – If you choose multiple location, be sure to budget enough time for the travel in between. For example, a New York City engagement session may include Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, and Soho. You will have to consider the traffic and various methods of getting there – which one is more efficient? taxi, subway, drive, or walk? You may also have to consider how crowded is the photo spot – will there be alot of people in the background? We can help you narrow down the list and pick the best spots.

story style – Not all engagement photos have to be like a casual date in different locations. You can talk to us about how you meet each other and interesting stories you both shared. We can plan with you and photograph your engagement as if it’s telling a story, much like stills from movie. Simple love story, a suspense, and even a themed storyline will be fun.

We’re on-location wedding photographers and portrait photographers. Thus, we no longer offer in-house studio session. For each event and photo shoot, we bring our studio lighting equipments to the venue or location chosen by the client. We photograph all of our children and family portraits outdoor or at client’s pick. Depending on the months of the newborn and baby, the photography session is usually photographed at client’s home in North Jersey or New York City.
